SEDS at Boston University has gotten off to a great start with our new executive board for 2011-2012!
At 3:30pm EST today, SEDS-USA Chairman Rick Hanton sent our a letter to many congressional staffers, the white house, and a variety of media outlets from over 250 students stating their belief in the promise of commercial spaceflight in the United States.
This letter was started as an initiative by a few SEDS students with some help from some of our distinguished alumni to present an actual “student view” on this aspect of the future of space travel to politicians in Washington D.C. The letter was organized and sent out by students from SEDS, but represented the views of students at both universities with SEDS chapters and universities without chapters that wanted to make their voice heard in the conversation about commercial spaceflight on capitol hill.
If you are a student who did not already sign this letter, we invite you to take a look at what we have written and sign to show your support if you agree with the points we have made.

Yuri’s Night 2011 is nearly upon us, and there are tons of ways that students and friends of SEDS can get involved!
If you haven’t already, you should work on setting up a local Yuri’s Night party. It could be an amazing party or learning event for hundreds of people or just a meetup between friends to celebrate humanity’s successes in space. In either case, please post your party at yurisnight.net so that others might be able to come join in the fun.
After a close round of voting, the Illinois Space Society was chosen as the winner of the 2010 SEDS Holiday Decorating Contest over their UB-SEDS competitors. Thanks to both groups for the great holiday photos! There were definitely some comments from the board about the neat rocket-Christmas tree. ISS will be receiving some posters and T-shirts donated by a few of the chapters. Maybe they’ll be able to use that rocket in the upcoming SEDS rocketry contest (more info coming soon!).
