The next step once you have a SEDS group formed is to gain any local recognition you need to be “official” on campus or at your school. It would be disappointing for a new group to be quickly shut down by the school for not following the school’s rules, so this is important. SEDS does not require you to have official recognition at your school, but it is usually a good idea. Usually schools require:
- Leaders such as a president, advisor, treasurer, secretary, etc.
- Information about the group on file for the school to reference.
- A constitution on file with the school for the group.
Check with your school’s administration for more information. It also helps to talk to the school newspaper to get the word out that you are starting a chapter. Watch the SEDS-USA twitter feed for examples of chapters in the news.
